St. Kitts and Nevis signs OCM MoU

The Government of Saint Kitts and Nevis has signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of the CLME+ region’s Ocean Coordination Mechanism (OCM). With this signature, the total number of MoU signatures is now 19, and so only 5  more country signatures are needed to activate the OCM MoU. The OCM's functions will include promoting regional cooperation by enhancing communication and collaboration among Signatories for the sustainable use of ocean and marine resources. It aims to create synergies and increase efficiency and effectiveness in the efforts of the Signatories. Through the PROCARIBE+ project which supports the OCM, Saint Kitts and Nevis will benefit from small grants to support coastal communities, particularly vulnerable groups to build resilience to face the increasing threats from ClimateChange in the region. The PROCARIBE+ Coordination Unit looks forward to the receipt of signatures of the OCM MOU from remaining countries and IGO's at their earliest convenience. A swift operationalization of the OCM will allow the region to maximize the benefits to be obtained from the funds provided by the Global Environment Facility GEF to PROCARIBE+.
