Marine Protection & Conservation

The 30x30 conservation target calls for the protection of 30% of the Earth’s land and sea through the establishment of protected areas and other area-based conservation measures (OECMs) by 2030. Achieving this goal requires expanding and strengthening Marine Protected Areas (MPA), promoting OECMs, and ensuring sustainable ocean use. To enhance marine protection and conservation across the region, PROCARIBE+ supports both the creation and reinforcement of MPAs and OECMs in collaboration with key International Organisations, governments and national stakeholders. These efforts prioritize regional cooperation and community engagement to ensure equitable and effective conservation outcomes.

PROCARIBE+ is focusing its efforts on marine protection and conservation in Colombia, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and the Mesoamerican Reef Region; these initiatives aim to protect marine biodiversity, promote the sustainable use of resources, and strengthen the resilience of coastal ecosystems. Click on the links for each country/sub-region below to learn more.
